Diwali, Deepawali 2024 Date: October 31 or November 1? When will Diwali (Deepawali) be celebrated? There is much confusion about the exact date of Diwali this year. There are many opinions, many talks, and some rumours that have led to this confusion.

We can't declare a date, but we can tell about the versions of authentic sources and organisations whose opinions matter and ideas followed.

But before that, go through some important rituals of Diwali. 

The festival of lights begins with Dhanteras and ends with Bhaiya Dooj.

In some states, such as Gujarat and Maharashtra, Diwali festivities start a bit earlier with festivals like Agyaras and Govatsa Dwadashi.   

Each day of Diwali festivities has some distinct ritual.

The moon day of Goddess Lakhsmi, also known as Lakhsmi Puja, holds the highest significance among these rituals.

Families and business houses participate in Lakshmi-Ganesh puja and seek blessings for happiness and prosperity.

VHP has given October 31 as the date for Diwali.

Drik Panchang

As per Drik Panchang, Lakshmi Puja will fall on October 31. The most auspicious time for Puja will be from 6:56 pm to 8:27 pm. Amavasya Tithi, which marks the new moon phase, starts at 3:52 pm, October 31, and ends at 6:16 pm, November 1.

Mishra has also confirmed October 31 as the date for Diwali.

Naraka Chaturdashi: October 31, 2024, Thursday
Abhyang Snan Muhurat: 5:20 am to 6:32 pm

Starts at 1:15 pm, October 30, and ends at 3:52 pm, October 31
 

Diwali (Lakshmi Puja): November 1, 2024, Friday

Lakshmi Puja Muhurat: 5:36 pm to 6:16 pm

Amavasya Tithi: Starts at 3:52 pm, October 31, and ends at 6:16 pm, November 1

Additional Puja timings

As per an expert opinion, the ideal time for Lakhsmi Puja on October 31 is between 6:27 pm and 8:32 pm. Nishita Muhurat, which is late-night mahurat, will occur from 11:39 pm to 12:31 am.
