About Guinness World Records

Guinness World Records, originally the Guinness Book of Records, is the authority that maintains lists of world records of human achievements and the extremes of the natural world.

The idea came about in the early 1950s when Sir Hugh Beaver (1890—1967), Managing Director of the Guinness Brewery, attended a shooting party in County Wexford. There, he and his hosts argued about the fastest game bird in Europe and failed to find an answer in any reference book.

Guinness Book of Records has sold more than 143 million copies across 100 countries and the book has been published in at least 22 languages.
