Children's Day 2023: Children's Day is celebrated on November 14 every year. This date was chosen to coincide with the birthday of Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first Prime Minister, who was known to be highly fond of children and pushed for their rights and education. As per Nehru, children represent the country's future, and nurturing them will chart the country's direction.

Nehru was born on November 14, 1889, in Allahabad, India.

Children's Day 2023: History

Previously, Children's Day was observed in India on November 20-the day designated as 'World Children's Day' by the United Nations. However, upon the death of Nehru in 1964, the Parliament passed a resolution designating his birthday as the country's official Children's Day. Since then, India has observed Children's Day to honour the birth anniversary of India's first Prime Minister. In India, the day is also known as Bal Diwas.

Children's Day 2023: Significance

"The children of today will make the India of tomorrow," Nehru said. Children's Day is observed to highlight the areas in which children in the country continue to face challenges, such as access to healthcare and education. The day also commemorates the innocence and joy of children.
