Today’s children are said to be the future and to make the future bright it is necessary to provide them with facilities and services. There are many child welfare schemes initiated by the government to ensure a safe and secure future for kids.

Here is a list of 3 such important schemes

1. Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS)

ICDS was launched by the Government of India in 1975 with the objective to improve the nutritional and health status of preschool children in 0-6 years of age group. This scheme aims to improve the nutritional and health status of preschool children in the age- group of 0-6 years. It aims to lay the foundation for the proper psychological development of the child. The scheme was initiated to reduce the incidence of mortality, morbidity, malnutrition, and school drop-out and to achieve effective coordination of policy and implementation amongst the various departments to promote child development.

This scheme also aims to enhance the capability of the mother to look after the normal health and nutritional needs of the child through proper nutrition and health education.

Under this scheme, a child is provided with Supplementary Nutrition, Health Check-ups, Immunization, Early Childhood Care, Pre-school Education, and Health Education.

2. Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS)

This scheme is a centrally-sponsored umbrella scheme under which various schemes for children in need of care and protection, and children in conflict with the law are covered. The children in need of care and protection are being provided Institutional as well as Non-Institutional Care under the scheme. ICPS aims to institutionalise essential services and strengthen structures, enhance capacities at all levels, create a database and knowledge base for child protection services, strengthen child protection at the family and community level, and ensure appropriate inter-sectoral response at all levels.

This scheme was introduced with the aim to contribute to the improvement in the well-being of children in difficult circumstances, as well as the reduction of vulnerabilities to situations that lead to abuse, neglect, exploitation, abandonment, and separation of children from their families.

3. National Child Labour Project (NCLP) Scheme

Under the National Child Labour Project (NCLP) scheme, children in the age group of 9-14 years are rescued/withdrawn from work and enrolled in the NCLP Special Training Centres (STCs), where they are provided with education, and vocational training, mid-day meal, stipend, health care, etc. before being mainstreamed into the formal education system. NCLP scheme has now been subsumed under Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Scheme.

Under the NCLP scheme, the Ministry of Labour & Employment provides grants in aid to the District Project Society which in turn releases to the concerned implementing agencies for the operation of Special Training Centres.
