Air India & IndiGo cancel Bali flights due to volcanic ash clouds from Mount Lewotobi Eruption
Air India and IndiGo have canceled flights to Bali due to volcanic ash clouds from Mount Lewotobis eruption. Passengers can opt for rescheduling, accommodation, or full refunds for affected flights.
In light of the volcanic eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki Laki in Indonesia, both Air India and IndiGo have announced the cancellation of their flights to and from Bali. The eruption, which occurred earlier this month, has triggered ash clouds that are affecting air travel in the region, prompting both airlines to halt their services.
Air India Cancels Delhi-Bali Flights
Air India tweeted a #TravelAdvisory on 13 November 2024, informing passengers that flights AI 2145 and AI 2146, operating between Delhi and Bali, had been cancelled due to adverse weather conditions caused by the volcanic eruption. The airline emphasised that the safety of passengers and crew remains its top priority.
In response to the unforeseen situation, Air India assured affected customers that all efforts are being made to minimise inconvenience. The airline is offering complimentary rescheduling, accommodation on the next available flights, or full refunds for those who wish to cancel their travel plans.
IndiGo’s Response to Disruptions
IndiGo, which operates a daily flight from Bengaluru to Bali, also issued a travel advisory on X (formerly Twitter), confirming that flights to and from the region have been cancelled. The airline cited the volcanic ash clouds as the primary cause for the disruption. IndiGo is offering affected passengers the option to either request a refund or rebook on an alternate flight via its official website.
Impact of Mount Lewotobi Laki Laki Eruption
The eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki Laki, located on a remote island in the East Nusa Tenggara province of Indonesia, has led to significant ash clouds. These clouds are a major concern for air travel, as they can severely impact flight safety. As a result, multiple airlines operating flights to Bali have been forced to cancel their services.
Both Air India and IndiGo are working to minimise the disruption for passengers, offering flexibility in flight rescheduling or cancellations. The airlines continue to monitor the situation closely, ensuring that the safety of their passengers remains the utmost priority during these challenging circumstances.
