Osteoporosis a silent killer, says AIIMS doctor
According to the AIIMS doctor, one in every five men and one in every three women is suffering from osteoporosis disease.
Osteoporosis is a silent killer that affects both men and women, said Dr. Rupesh Srivastava - Associate Prof., Department of Biotechnology, AIIMS, New Delhi. According to the AIIMS doctor, one in every five men and one in every three women is suffering from osteoporosis disease.
"Today we usually see people talking about COVID-19, Cancer, Malaria and Dengue. Very few are concerned about osteoporosis - a silent killer. There is very little research on this subject," said Dr. Srivastava while speaking at the special session organised by the Research Centre of Nehru Gram Bharati (Deemed to be University) on “Bone Immunology”.
Dr. Srivastava said that a case of bone fracture is reported every 30 seconds globally and the numbers are more worrying in terms of India. He also talked about immunoparesis and also explained things related to the innate immune system and adaptive immune system.
Dr. S.C. Tiwari, Pro-Vice Chancellor presented a memento and shawl to Dr. Srivastava on the occasion. Dr. Rudra Ojha, Program Coordinator and Director of Research Center, introduced the guests and gave a brief on bone immunology.
The welcome speech was given by Prof. R.C. Tripathi. The program was conducted by Dr. Adinath and the vote of thanks was given by Dr. Ashish Shivam. The event was attended by several teachers and a large number of students of the university.
