5 ways to reduce your AC bill this summer
Although current ACs are designed to use less energy than older versions, they nonetheless burn a hole in your pocket when it comes to monthly electricity costs.
Summer season is here. The mercury is rising and the heat has almost become unbearable. Hence, the only respite these days are air conditioners (ACs). ACs can be lifesavers but excess use of AC can lead to a huge electricity bill.
Although current ACs are designed to use less energy than older versions, they nonetheless burn a hole in your pocket when it comes to monthly electricity costs. So, if you are worried about using the air conditioner most of the time, fearing a huge AC bill at the end of the month, we have got you covered. Here are five simple ways to reduce your electricity bill while utilising an air conditioner:
Service your AC
If you do not use AC regularly, it should be serviced and cleaned before use in order for it to work effectively. Sometimes, when there is dust in the AC, it does not cool the room as required and one has to keep it on for a longer time. This can lead to a huge electricity bill. Thus, servicing the AC regularly or even just before using it can help reduce electricity bills.
Keep doors and windows closed
This is a very basic yet crucial thing one should remember while operating AC. Keeping the door and windows shut while using the AC helps in keeping the room cool for a longer time as the cold air will circulate in the same room without escaping.
Use a timer to avoid overuse
Every air conditioner has a timer system in it. It is preferable to use this feature rather than leave the system running all night. Setting the timer for 2-3 hours straight before going to bed or at other times is always a smart idea. So, when you set the timer, the air conditioner turns off after a certain amount of time. This will significantly reduce the overuse of the air conditioner while also lowering the electricity bill.
Use Energy Star-rated AC
Always use energy star AC as these can help bring down power consumption and reduce your bills.
Choose the right temperature
According to the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), the optimal temperature for the human body is 24 degrees Celsius, and any AC will require less load to accomplish that goal. As a result, it is preferable to keep the AC temperature about 24 degrees Fahrenheit. This will conserve more electricity while also lowering the bill.
