'Jailer' was released in theatres on Thursday, August 10, with an impressive Rs 48.35 crore collection on its opening day in India. The weekend revitalised its momentum, culminating in a remarkable Rs 102.25 crore in net collections across India. The movie is expected to see a strong jump in collections over Tuesday due to the Independence Day holiday.

‘Jailer’ could be one of the biggest hits of 2023

Positioned to become one of  highest-grossing Indian movies of 2023 beating titles like ‘Varisu’, ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar’ and ‘Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Jaan’, the movie could hit the Rs 400 crore mark on the back of its success. If it manages to do so then, 'Jailer' will be Rajinikanth’s second movie to hit a milestone. ‘Jailer’ could also become the second-highest-grossing movie in India in 2023. Currently, Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Pathan’ holds on to the title with collections of over Rs 1,050 crore with Prabhas’ ‘Adipurush’ coming in second with collections of Rs 390 crore.

The action-packed movie is directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, and stars not only Rajinikanth but also, Ramya Krishnan, Priyanka Mohan, Tamannaah Bhatia, Yogi Babu, Vasanth Ravi and Jackie Shroff. The movie has received rave reviews for its unapologetic action packed spectacle and Rajinikanth’s performance as Muthuvel Pandian, the eponymous retired jailer.

The movie is being seen as remarkable success for filmmaker Nelson Dilipkumar after the box office failure of his last venture ‘Beast’. It’s also a successful comeback for Rajinikanth as his two previous movies, ‘Annaatthe’ and ‘Darbar’, showed subdued performance at the box office.
