With the low-key performance, the film on its Friday release, earned Rs 1.31 crore on day 1 (December 2) at the domestic box office. This collection was even less than Ajay Devgn's 3-week-old Drishyam 2, which earned Rs 4.45 crore on Friday (Week 3).

The collection surprised film critic Taran Adarsh as he termed it 'shockingly low'. He added that 'An Action Hero' needs to salvage the situation on the second and third day to get back on track.

"#AnActionHero opens to shockingly low numbers on Day 1… Needs to salvage the situation on Day 2 and 3… Fri ₹ 1.31 cr. #India biz," Taran Adarsh tweeted

Apart from Khurrana's 'An Action Hero', two movies were also released yesterday on the OTT platforms. One is Kartik Aryan's Freddy and the other is Madhur Bhandarkar's India Lockdown. Both films received a good response.

"Lockdown… Brings back so many memories when the world came to a standstill… #MadhurBhandarkar relives the period with precision and maturity, narrating four stories with solid conviction… Every story/character stands out… #IndiaLockdown is amongst #Madhur’s best works," Adarsh tweeted.

The twists-and-turns, double-crossing and the sinister plan of Freddy enthralled Adarsh, whereas India Lockdown brought back old memories.

"Loved #Freddy for most parts… The twists-and-turns, double crossing and the sinister plan - this is no routine, predictable thriller… The biggest takeaway is #KartikAaryan, who delivers his career-best, superb act… Refreshingly different from the characters he has portrayed," he further tweeted.
