Gonzales dedicates win to 'Motherland India'

Gonsalves celebrated her Oscar win as an achievement for the country. Standing in front of hundreds of guests at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, she dedicated her award to "motherland India".

"I stand here to speak of our connection with the natural world, for the respect of indigenous communities, and empathy towards other living beings we share a space with, and finally, for coexistence," she said. Gonsalves also marked her debut with this documentary.

"Thank you to the Academy for recognising our film, highlighting indigenous people. And for Netflix, for believing in the power of our film."

After The Elephant Whisperers' win, Indians are eagerly awaiting the results for "Naatu Naatu" from the RRR movie, which has been nominated for the Best Music (Original Song).
