Retail tomato prices declined 22.4 per cent month-on-month on improved supplies across the country, the Consumer Affairs Ministry said on Sunday. The all-India average retail price of tomatoes stood at Rs 52.35 per kg on November 14, down from Rs 67.50 per kg on October 14, according to an official statement.

The WPI index for fuel and power increased by 0.14 per cent to 148.1 in August from 147.9 for July, 2024. Price of electricity (1.59 per cent) increased while price of mineral oils (-0.32 per cent) decreased.

Keeping food inflation under control is a priority of the central government of India, with several direct interventions through price stabilisation measures having played an important role in easing inflation, said Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi. The central onion offer stock of the kitchen staple stands at 4.7 lakh tonnes from the rabi crop, he said.
