Keeping food inflation under control is a priority of the central government of India, with several direct interventions through price stabilisation measures having played an important role in easing inflation, said Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi. The central onion offer stock of the kitchen staple stands at 4.7 lakh tonnes from the rabi crop, he said.

Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi has launched sales of tomatoes at a subsidised rate of Rs 60 per kg in Delhi-NCR. National Cooperative Consumers' Federation (NCCF) vans will provide tomatoes at a subsidised rate in the national capital region, selling the perishable commodity at the special rate.

Domestic onion prices are currently showing signs of moderation due to the increased supply of rabi season production. As these onions reach the market in larger volumes, the overall supply has improved, alleviating the earlier price pressures.
