The trough leads to instability and brings heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorms over Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Odisha on Saturday. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are also likely over Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday.

67 underprivileged children get admission in govt schools under ‘Operation Mukti’ in Dehradun

Sixty-seven children who were earlier into beggary have been admitted to government schools under 'Operation Mukti,' a campaign of the state police. With the motto of 'Bhiksha Nahi, Shiksha,' the campaign attempts to motivate children and their families to choose education over begging. Attempts have also been made to improve the financial condition of the parents of these children. In the first phase of this campaign, which started on May 1, the focus was primarily on Dehradun district. In addition to Dehradun district, this campaign under 'Operation Mukti' is also ongoing in Haridwar, Nainital, and Udham Singh Nagar districts of the state. Speaking to ANI, Nodal officer Shekhar Suyal said, "It was observed that 292 children were not part of the mainstream in the city out of which 191 were involved in begging, we targeted such children."

23-year-old mountaineer Sheetal Raj has become one of the youngest women to scale Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world. In 2018, Raj, who hails from Pithoragarh district, had scaled Kanchenjunga peak, thus becoming the youngest Indian woman to scale the world's third highest peak. Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat congratulated Sheetal on his Twitter page. Sheetal Raj’s father, who is driver by profession said, “We had watched this in television only, that there is something called Mount Everest.”
