10th Telecom Spectrum Auction: The country's 10th spectrum auction for mobile radiowaves concluded on Wednesday with bids totaling Rs 11,340 crore after six rounds of bidding. Initiated by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), the auction aimed to strengthen the country's telecom infrastructure. It included bands crucial for 5G services, offering a total of 10,522.35 MHz across bands ranging from 800 MHz to 26 GHz. The last telecom spectrum auction was held in 2022, wherein the government bagged record proceeds of Rs 1,50,173 crore. The upcoming auction will be the second such auction after telecom reforms implemented in September 2021.

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the next spectrum auction of a total of 2251.25 MHz. Addressing the media, post the Cabinet meeting, Union Minister for Communications Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the auction will be held for spectrum in the 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz and 2500 MHz frequency bands, for validity period of 20 years.
