The Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) Monetary Policy Committee decided to reduce the policy repo rate under the liquidity adjustment facility (LAF) by 25 basis points from 6.5 per cent to 6.25 per cent with immediate effect on Thursday morning.
RBI Rate Now: Many believed a status quo in this RBI monetary policy for a host of reason including core inflation, fiscal slippages, etc.
The majority, in a poll of economists, believes a status quo is in the offing for this RBI policy, however, some have pointed out a surprise in the form of rate cut from governor Shaktikanta Das and MPC members.
The RBI governor Shaktikanta Das along with Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) will be announcing India’s sixth monetary policy at around 1145 hours on Thursday.
RBI Credit Policy: Reserve Bank of India's monetary policy committee led by Governor Shaktikanta Das today surprised everyone with a cut in the repo rate.
Majority of economists are predicting a status quo. However, few have still pointed out towards a repo rate cut picture for the first time in over an year.
Currently, the RBI policy repo rate stands at 6.50% with reverse repo rate at 6.25%; whereas marginal standing facility (MSF) rate and bank rate at 6.75% each.
