The price of shares for the deal would be "at or around the market price prevailing on the date of acquisition". Market analysts said this transfer of shares would eventually lead to sale of the stake to a third party and help Bharti Airtel raise money.

On March 15, Airtel had said that its board of directors has decided not to monetise a controlling stake in Infratel for now. The board has decided to undertake a sale/transfer up to 40 crore Infratel equity shares owned by Bharti Airtel to Nettle.
