In a move to facilitate liquidity management operations, the RBI revised the ceiling for the issue of securities under the MSS to Rs 6 lakh crore from the earlier Rs 30,000 crore. The move would help it rein in excess liquidity from the system after demonetisation which had seen banks getting high cash deposits.

Madhavi Arora, Upasna Bhardwaj and Suvodeep Rakshit analysts of Kotak said, “The surplus syste, liquidity post relaxation of incremental CRR can now be managd by the mix of shorter tenor MSS bonds and reverse repo operations.”

On June 22, the RBI had said that under the MSS for the current fiscal was fixed at Rs 30,000 crore.
