CNG Price Hike Mumbai: After an increase in input costs, Mahanagar Gas Ltd (MGL) has announced a hike in CNG prices in Mumbai by Rs 1.50 per kg and in the rate of piped cooking gas to households by Re 1. These revised prices will take effect from the night of July 8 to July 9. Mahanagar Gas Ltd serves Mumbai and its neighboring cities by retailing CNG for automobiles and providing piped natural gas for cooking purposes.

Mahanagar Gas EBITDA was up 22% yoy despite a 9% yoy decline in volumes helped by margin expansion and came broadly in-line with Jefferies but 14% ahead of consensus. As flagged recently, Jefferies continues to expect consensus earnings upgrades and note that Mahanagar Gas stock could outperform due to a 25% consensus EPS upgrade even if "valuation" does not re-rate.

The volume recovery surprised positively with Nov sales rising above the pre-Covid-19 level. OMCs have raised demands for higher commissions but management is confident it can pass this on to consumers.
