Point 5140 at Drass in Kargil has been christened as 'Gun Hill'. This was done to commemorate the victory of Indian armed forces and pay tribute to the supreme sacrifice of the gunners in 'Operation Vijay', a defence spokesman on Saturday said.

The Kargil War in 1999 saw the country losing more than 500 soldiers. The Indian soldiers pushed back Pakistani troops, a bulk of them drawn from the neighbouring country's Northern Light Infantry, from the captured peaks in Kargil.

IAF Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa led a 'Missing Man' formation flypast of MiG-21 aircraft in Punjab’s Bathinda. He flew it to pay his tribute to Squadron leader Ajay Ahuja who was killed in action during operation Safed Sagar (Kargil 1999). The ‘Missing Man’ formation was carried out from Bhisiana IAF station. Air Marshal R Nambiar also took part in the event.
