The Income Tax Department has identified certain mismatches between the information received from third parties on interest and dividend income, and the Income Tax Return (ITR) filed by taxpayers. In many cases, taxpayers have not even filed their ITRs, it said.

Income Tax Return Filing: More than four crore income tax returns (ITRs) have been filed so far for fiscal 2022-23 and more than half of them have been processed leading to issuance of 80 lakh refunds, CBDT chairperson Nitin Gupta said on Monday. The deadline for income tax return filing is July 31.

The Government of India has extended the deadline for filing the income tax returns (ITRs) for people across India to August 5, 2016. Earlier the government had set July 31 as the deadline for filing the income tax returns (ITRs).
