Delhi Metro project had a modest beginning with 8 km in 2002. It currently has 585 kilometre of Metro lines operational in the country. Outside Delhi, modern metro rail has shown phenomenal growth.

Phase-1 of Hyderabad Metro Rail project, covering 66 km, would be completed by next year and Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) on phase-II are in the final stage, a top official said on Tuesday. With 46 km of Phase 1 now operational, Hyderabad Metro Monday became the country's second largest Metro Rail network, next only to Delhi.

A record 2.4 lakh passengers travelled by the Hyderabad Metro rail today, the highest number since its launch last week. "2.4 lakh passengers travelled by Hyderabad Metro today," L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Ltd, the concessionaire developing the 72-km elevated metro project, said.

The trains would run from 6 am to 10 pm initially which would be rescheduled to 5:30 am to 11 pm depending on the traffic and demand. A mobile app named 'T Savari' for metro passengers was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was also given a power-point presentation on the project at Miyapur station.
