India will send up its first second-generation navigation satellite on May 29 morning, using its Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) rocket, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) said on Monday.

The Indian Space Research Organistaion (ISRO) launched the Chandrayaan-2 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Andhra Pradesh’s Sriharikota. Chandrayaan-2 was launched onboard ISRO’s most powerful launcher, the 640-tonne rocket Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle- Mark-III (GSLV Mk-III). Originally scheduled for a July 15 launch, the mission was called off 56 minutes before the launch due to a technical snag. If launched successfully, India will be the first country to land on the south side of the Moon.

According to Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), the Mission Readiness Review (MRR) committee and the Launch Authorisation Board (LAB) on Tuesday cleared the 27-hour count down . The 415.6 ton GSLV rocket measuring 49.1 metre tall is scheduled to blast off at 4.56 p.m. from the second launch pad from at Indian rocket port in Sriharikota, 105 km from Chennai
