While being led by around a dozen police officers for a normal medical examination on Saturday, April 15 night, the 60-year-old former Samajwadi Party MP was assassinated a few hours after his son Asad Ahmed received his last rites. The Prayagraj shooting took place around 10:30 pm and was captured live on camera as media persons followed the handcuffed duo of Atiq and Ashraf being taken to the Calvin Hospital.

The three assailants, who killed gangster Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf, belong to three different districts in Uttar Pradesh. Lovlesh Tiwari belongs to Banda, Sunny Singh belongs to Hamirpur and Arun Maurya lives in Kasganj.

In an interesting twist to the sensational Umesh Pal murder case, the Prayagraj Police on Wednesday used bulldozers to demolish the properties of the accused, who are believed to be close aides of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed. Umesh Pal, a key eyewitness in the 2005 murder of the then BSP MLA Raju Pal was shot dead at his residence in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj on February 24.
