Unveiling the revenue-expenditure data of the union government for the first three months of 2024-25, CGA said the net tax revenue was Rs 5,49,633 crore or 21.1 per cent of the BE for the current fiscal. The net tax revenue collection was 18.6 per cent at end-June 2023.
“The government has always maintained fiscal prudence as one of the important governance principles. From the low levels of GDP during the Covid-19 pandemic, India has become the fastest-growing economy,” said the Finance Minister.

While there has been some improvement from the 8-9% levels in FY2009-10 (the years following the global financial crisis), GFD has stubbornly stayed around 7%."
