A representative from IMD/IITM apprised that the avg. AQI of Delhi has touched 300 (‘Very Poor’ category) due to highly unfavorable meteorological conditions,"

The authorities have warned dusty conditions are likely to prevail for another 3-4 days and advised people to avoid staying outdoors for long hours. Low visibility due to dusty weather conditions led to cancellations of all flights to and from Chandigarh International Airport. "No flight landed or took off from Chandigarh (airport) until today afternoon due to bad weather," a Chandigarh International Airport Limited official said.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by chief secretary Anshu Prakash to review preparedness in the wake of the warning. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an alert on Monday forecasting that several parts of north India including Delhi could witness thunderstorm and squall tomorrow with winds gusting up to 50-70 kilometers per hour.
Delhi government decided to close all evening schools tomorrow and put search and rescue teams on standby in the wake of the meteorological (MeT) department issuing a warning of heavy rain and thunderstorm.

The dust storm had plunged Delhi into darkness and this had an effect on the traffic as the lights went off causing pandemonium in various large intersections across the city. To add to the misery was the fact that due to the dust, the visibility was down to a few metres and the assault of the wind and dust particles on the eyes had many people rubbing them to get relief. The effect in Lutyens' Delhi was spellbinding though as the major edifices were spectacularly covered by dust even as the drizzle tried to cut through the shroud.
