A limit applicable to loans for SMEs under the 'Tarun' category of the PM Mudra scheme has been doubled to Rs 20 lakh. The decision was announced by the finance minister in her Union Budget 2024 speech on July 23. Under Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, the higher limit of Rs 20 lakh under the Tarun Plus category will be provided to entrepreneurs who have already serviced their loans under the Tarun category earlier, according to a Ministry of Finance notification. The central government has announced it will borrow Rs 6.61 lakh crore from October to March, which translates to 47.2 per cent of its total borrowing target for FY25 as set in the Union Budget. AMFI wants the government to take a further step in Budget 2024 as it has requested that Centre allow mutual funds to offer pension-focused schemes—Mutual Fund Linked Retirement Schemes (MFLRS)—with similar tax benefits as the National Pension System (NPS).
Some of the cases where standard deduction does not apply are during instances when the ITR is being filed for a period of less than one year, in case when a taxpayer has a dual status in a particular financial year etc.
It has requested the government to reconsider the short-term capital gains tax imposed last year on debt-oriented mutual funds with equity exposure of up to 35 per cent.
