It is a huge blow for the Congress as the 38-year-old boxer from Bhiwani, Haryana, had contested the 2019 Lok Sabha polls from the South Delhi seat on a Congress ticket. He lost the election to the BJP' Ramesh Bidhuri. In the 2024 Parliamentary elections, rumours were making rounds that the Grand Old Party may ask Vijender to contest from Mathura, where actress Hema Malini is an MP from the BJP.

The new parliamentary board has been announced by the Bharatiya Janata Party. The surprising thing is that the board has not included senior leaders Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Nitin Gadkari, but has included six new faces including former Karnataka Chief Minister B. S.
