As on July 13, India's currency-in-circulation (CIC) stood at Rs 19.57 lakh crore compared to CIC of Rs 10.55 lakh crore in the beginning of December 2016.

Sanjeev Sanyal, Principal Economic Advisor, said, "see, it's natural, the demand for cash keeps on changing with time. But has seen a sudden rise in past 2-3 weeks and was triggered in some areas like Karnataka and Telangana. But it is nothing to panic over as there is plenty cash available with the Reserve Bank of India. We will find a solution to this cash crunch in few days."
ATM cash crunch crisis: In the last 2-3 months, there has been a cash demand of Rs 40,000-45,000 crore against the usual demand of Rs 10,000-15,000 crore leading to shortages at many places.
