While numerous countries have launched missions to study the Sun, none has been able to reach its surface (unlike the Moon). The primary obstacle preventing such a landing is the extreme temperature on the Sun.

India scripted history with the success of its third lunar mission Chandrayaan-3 on August 23. The Indian space agency, ISRO has a long list of missions after the Chandrayaan-3. Aditya-L1 mission would be the first space-based Indian observatory to study the Sun. It is expected to launch around the end of August to early Sep 2023 and will cost around 378 crore.
