What is Aadhaar? Can non-resident Indians apply for it? The Aadhaar number is a 12-digit personal identification (ID) number assigned by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), responsible for the enrolment and authentication under the biometric data-based Aadhaar system. Simply put, Aadhaar is the digital identity issued to a bearer that can be authenticated through biometric or mobile OTP.
