OnePlus Watch 2R Review: A surprise package that punches above its segment

OnePlus Watch 2R Review: To draw an analogy, it launched the OnePlus 12 as a premium device, while also offering a more affordable version of the OnePlus 12R. Similarly, the device under review, the OnePlus Watch 2R, can be seen as an affordable version of the OnePlus Watch 2. In this review, we’ll explore the features and updates the device brings to the table. 

Sporting a brushed aluminium design, the OnePlus Watch 2R feels like a vintage device with a modern twist. The device is on the lighter side, weighing just 59g, with a case size of 46mm. There are two buttons on the right side, which are easy to use and identify. The lugs are comparatively thicker this time, while the straps are made of silicon, providing a comfortable fit. The straps offer a clean texture and premium feel. The pin-buckle system is made of stainless steel, enhancing durability.

The device can be properly used with the OHealth companion app, available on the Google Play store for Android devices. The companion app offers a dynamic interface with a range of features and customisation options, allowing users to make optimal use of the OnePlus Watch 2R. The interface is easy-to-navigate, with important functionalities easily accessible. Data synchronisation with other services is smooth, allowing for enhanced data transfer across various ecosystems. 

OnePlus Watch 2R Review: The watch also comes with an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, which is no less than a bonus in this segment. Nonetheless, the device does not come with MIL-STD-810H certification, which would have ensured its operation even in extremely hostile weather scenarios, including extreme heat or freezing cold. 

The OnePlus Watch 2R features a 1.43-inch AMOLED display with a flat Panda glass, with imprinted numbers circumscribing it. The device remains bright enough even outdoors, with icons and text appearing sharp. 

In terms of performance, the User Interfaces-Wear OS 4 or RTOS- doesn’t disappoint, thanks to the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 + BES2700 processor, supported by 2GB of RAM and 32GB of ROM. There have been no noticeable hiccups while using the watch.   

The OnePlus Watch 2R comes with several features, including Bluetooth calling, which works smoothly with clear audio transmission- although the volume could be louder. It is equipped with premium health sensors that provide near-accurate readings. The device also tracks GPS efficiently, offering precise readings. Additionally, the watch also tracks sleep, and the companion app complements it with adequate health suggestions. 

The efficient UI optimisation, aided by the presence of Dual-Engine architecture, allows the OnePlus Watch 2R to offer considerably longer battery life. If you keep the AOD and SpO2 off, the device will last a week on a single charge. With these features on, it will last for about three days. The company claims up to 12 days of backup in power saver mode. It packs a 500mAh battery with a 7.5W charging rate. The box has a regular USB Type-C to Type-A cable but no charger. Additionally, the device also features a magnetic charging system, with the watch perfectly sitting on the charging dock. 

The OnePlus Watch 2R is a solid wearable that delivers seamless performance along with near-premium durability. The aluminium case reduces its weight, placing it among other aesthetically soothing watches in the segment. Plus, its excellent battery life and easy-to-use UI make it a worthy choice.
