Built up of plastic and weighing 255g, the Sony ULT Wear Wireless headphones feel bulkier than its predecessors. However, the headphones are comfortable overall, with a good amount of padding. Featuring smooth cushions, the brand claims they will not wrinkle due to thermo-foaming. On the left, the ULT button is located alongside the power and noise-cancelling buttons. On the right, touch controls allow you to change tracks as well as handle play, pause, and skip functionalities. The sound quality of the Sony ULT Wear Wireless headphones is decent, thanks to the 40mm drivers. Whether you listen to pop music or classical or hip-hop music, the details are exceptional. As per the brand, drivers deliver better bass, while the VI chip considerably takes the noise cancelling feature a notch above. The chip also helps enhance the ear-detection sensors, allowing users to pause or resume the tracks when removed or worn, respectively. The dedicated ULT button located at the left helps with a lower-frequency boost with one press, and a second press enhances the bass further.

The Sony ULT Wear Wireless headphone comes with Bluetooth 5.2 and its own LDAC codec, which supports up to 990kbps 32-bit/96kHz. The device works with the Sony Headphones Connect app, which offers a range of smart features for customizing the device according to users’ needs. Customisation options include, switching between noise cancellation to ambient mode, adjusting the audio as per the interest, or enabling Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE), the brand’s own technology to enhance the low-quality tracks or audio files.

The Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) feature of Sony ULT Wear Wireless headphones is decent, effectively preventing outside noise and delivering a top performance. The call quality is also good, with no perceived distortion and crystal-clear audio. However, the headphone occasionally picks the outside sound, which can be heard at the receiver’s end. For a mid-range device, the ANC feature and the call quality are more than satisfactory. Additionally, the headphone is also equipped with Sony’s 360 Reality Audio, enabling it to analyse the ear shape to create an immersive experience. Once, this feature is activated, an enhanced depth in the sound quality can be felt.

The device comfortably gives a back up of 30 hours with ANC turned off. Once ANC is turned on, it can stretch up to 50 hours. The battery prowess is certainly one of the best in this segment. To fully charge the device, it takes almost 3.5 hours. Additionally, a quick charge option can also be explored with this device, which promises to give a playtime of 90 minutes if it gets a 3-minute charge.
