Despite being an entry-level smartphone, it comes with premium build quality. It has a glass back and a minimalistic design. The three camera rings, with silver edges, look cool. It has flat edges both on the front and the back. On the top, it has a 3.5mm jack and IR blaster. The smartphone also has an iP53 rating.

The power button on the right side doubles up as a fingerprint scanner which works flawlessly.

Redmi 12 Review: Display

Redmi 12 comes with a 6.79-inch full HD+ IPS LCD display which supports a refresh rate of 90Hz and peak brightness of 550 nits. You can use the smartphone outdoors but it struggles a bit under direct sunlight. Also, it has thick bezels at the chin.

Content consumption on this device is good as it produces vibrant colours and the speaker is also loud enough.

Redmi 12 Review: Performance and software

Redmi 12 is powered by MediaTek Helio G88 octa-core processor with ARM Mali-G52 MC2 GPU. The device can easily handle all your day-to-day tasks and even let you multitask. You can even play games like Subway Surfer and Angry Birds.

Redmi 12 boots on MIUI 14 OS based on Android 13 which offers several options for customisation. However, it does come with some bloatware.

Redmi 12 Review: Camera

The smartphone has a triple camera setup at the rear with a primary camera of 50MP. It is accompanied by an 8MP ultrawide sensor and a 2MP macro sensor with LED flash. The smartphone is capable of clicking images that are worth sharing on social media platforms. However, in low light, images have a lot of noise.

It is the portrait mode of the camera that impressed us the most as it manages to give a decent bokeh effect while separating the background and foreground. While the ultrawide-angle camera manages to do its job, don't expect much from the macro sensor.

For selfies, it has 8MP punch-hole camera at the front. In natural light, it clicks decent images but again don't expect very good quality during low lights. However, it has several filters that can at times come in handy.

Redmi 12 Review: Battery and charging

The smartphone is powered by a 5,000mAh battery that easily survives for the entire day. The smartphone also comes with a 22.5W charger in the retail box. However, it supports only 18W charging.

Redmi 12 Review: Verdict

Redmi 12 comes with a capable chip and decent battery life - the two most important aspects that budget phone buyers consider. If you are looking to buy a budget or entry-level smartphone, Redmi 12 can be an easy pick.
