Several users took to social media on Sunday to inform that they were not able to access popular apps like YouTube and Snapchat. These users complained that they were having trouble loading these popular websites and apps. "Google, YouTube, Snapchat, Shopify, all currently down. Is the internet melting?" asked one Twitter post. Both Snapchat and Google-owned YouTube acknowledged the server issue on their Twitter accounts.
In a statement on its Cloud Platform status page, Google said that it was dealing with "high levels of network congestion in the eastern USA, affecting multiple services in Google Cloud, G Suite and YouTube." The statement added that users may see slow performance or intermittent errors,". Google clarified that engineers had completed the first of two steps to restore normal operations.
Cloud computing is one of Google's most lucrative services, but faces stiff competition from other technology companies like Amazon and Microsoft. In March, the world's largest social network, Facebook, blamed a "server configuration change" for a massive outage affecting its applications around the world. The outage affected users for at least 12 hours in most areas of the world, with the biggest impact in North America and Europe, a tracking website said at the time.
Google Play Store not working too
Several other users even complained of Google Play Store not working. The affected users are apparently getting a server error while accessing Google Play Store from their Android devices. The issue was reported in the mobile version of the app while the web version is working absolutely fine.
"The Google Play Store seems to be down completely. Can't update or download new apps," one user tweeted from the Unites States.
The issue was also reported from a number of European markets as well as in Asian countries, including India. The error was stopping users from downloading or updating an app from Google Play Store. Some users complained that even clearing the cache and data stored by the Google Play Store app doesn't help and the error persists.
