Your Android TV will soon get Android 11 update: Low latency, gamepad support – All expected changes

There is a good news for those who own an Android TV. Google has confirmed that Android TV devices will also get the Android 11 update, which will include performance and privacy improvements, new features and updated developer tools. The update has already been rolled out for select smartphones while others are expected to get it soon.  

Android TV continues to bring many of the benefits that come with the core Android update to the TV. With Android 11, performance improvements, like enhanced memory management, and privacy features, like one-time permissions, are introduced to make sure TV devices work quickly and securely,” says Wolfram Klein, Product Manager, Android TV.  

Some of the key features expected to be part of the update are - support for low latency mode for gaming, support for gamepad hardware and privacy features that let you control the microphones in TVs.  

The auto latency mode will be activated when gaming apps are being used. The extended gamepad support will be provided with official support for the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller and USB support for the Steam Controller.  

Android TV will also better support hardware for actual TVs in this update for functions such as system LEDs, microphones, OEM-configurable wake keys, and more. New framework functionality for managing System LEDs and physical microphone mute buttons also facilitate integrations for far-field microphone enabled devices.

The update will also benefit smart TV boxes that run Android TV.  

However, the customers might have to wait until the update is rolled out for public. Google is yet to announce a date for the same. Even when the new version in introduced, it will take a while to reach everyone.
