Xiaomi launches new Redmi Y series smartphones in India starting at Rs 6,999

Xiaomi on Thursday announced the launch of a new Redmi series – Redmi Y in India. The new launch of the new series of smartphones are targeted towards the youth in the country.
The Redmi Y's key highlight is the selfie camera. The first smartphone in the Redmi Y series launched by Xiaomi is the Redmi Y. The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 is priced starting from Rs 8,999.
The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 comes with a 16 megapixel front camera with a large 2.0 aperture that the company claims will help take clear shots even in challenging low-light conditions.
There is also a LED selfie-light next to the selfie camera on the new Redmi Y1 that helps give a clear lighting for the camera.
Besides this, the Xiaomi Redmi Y1 comes with a 13 megapixel rear camera which will help people take pictures.
The Redmi Y1 comes with a 5.5 inch HD display and in two variants, ie one with a 3GB RAM and 32GB internal memory and the other with 4GB RAM and 64 GB internal memory.
The 3GB/32GB variant of the Xiaomi Y1 is priced at Rs 8,999, while the 4GB/64GB variant of Y1 is priced at Rs 10,999.
The company also launched a cheaper variant the Redmi Y1 Lite that is priced at Rs 6,999 and comes with a 2GB RAM and 16GB internal memory.
Besides this, the Redmi Y1 is powered by a Snapdragon 435 processor. It comes with a 3080mAh battery which the company claims last for a full-day.
All variants of the Redmi Y1 will come with the latest MIUI 9 operating system customised for India.
The company also announced the Katrina Kaif will be their new brand ambassador in India.
