WhatsApp or Facebook are in absolutely no mood to drop their guard and let someone steal their thunder. The social media giant is consistently bringing new features to the instant messaging platform allowing it to stay ahead of the competition. The latest to join the list is called 'Disappearing Messages'. WhatsApp is reportedly testing this feature that allows users to self-destruct their messages. This can be done by setting a self-destruction time. It means that the message sent by you in any chat window will be there only for the time you want it to be.

The new feature has been spotted by WhatsApp tracker WABetaInfo in the Android Beta v2.19.275. The new WhatsApp Beta version is now available for download. However, only those who have enrolled for WhatsApp Beta program can access it for now. Going by the pass record of the messaging app, any feature that comes to WhatsApp Beta usually makes its way to the main app as well. The same should apply to WhatsApp 'Disappearing Messages' feature as well, however, the timeline of roll out for normal users is not known.

As per WABetaInfo, the new feature is being tested for WhatsApp Groups but could also be made available for individual chats. The blog also shared some images of this feature that show a pop-up window in the Settings menu from where users can set message expiration and destruction for either 5 seconds or 1 hour.

There is a possibility that when the feature is officially rolled out, WhatsApp might offer more duration options to its users. All you need to do is select one of the options and self-destruct is enabled. After this, any message sent in a chat or WhatsApp group will be automatically deleted after that time period.

Unlike the unsend feature, the messages won't leave text indicating that a message has been deleted from the chat. Instead, they will simply disappear from the window.
