The special edition was confirmed just one day before the K20 series' formal launch in India. The new variant was teased by Xiaomi India chief Manu Kumar Jain on Twitter who claimed that the new device would be "something out of the world."
Manu also confirmed that the special edition would be priced at Rs 4.8 lakh. "20 hours to go for #RedmiK20Pro & #RedmiK20. Launching something OUT OF THE WORLD tomorrow! A very special version worth.. hold-your-breath..₹ 4.8 Lakh! What's so special about this variant? RT if you want to know more!" Jain tweeted.
Jain also posted an image of the smartphone along with the tweet. The image confirmed that the variant will come with a gold-finish back along with a diamond-clad logo depicting the alphabet "K". However, Xiaomi and Jain have not provided any details about the availability of this smartphone. So, it will be interesting to see if it goes on sale with the regular Redmi K20 series devices. Also, the specifications of the latest variant haven't been revealed.
Xiaomi has been dominating the budget smartphone segment in India so far and is set to take on biggies like Apple and OnePlus for the very first time with its flagship K20 series. Interestingly, the company is also turning five this year and the special edition could be launched to commemorate the anniversary in India.
The Redmi K20 Pro comes with a 6.39-inch full-HD+ (1080x2340 pixels) AMOLED panel and sports an in-display fingerprint sensor. It is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 855 SoC, paired with Adreno 640 GPU and up to 8GB of RAM. At the back, the Redmi K20 gets a triple rear camera setup that includes a 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 primary sensor with an f/1.75 lens, a 13-megapixel secondary sensor with a wide-angle lens, and a third 8-megapixel sensor with an f/2.4 lens. For selfies, there is a 20-megapixel pop-up selfie camera onboard.
The smartphone packs a 4,000mAh battery along with 27W fast charging support.
