WhatsApp Update: This popular app is bringing in a new update for Android smartphones which is set to introduce several changes to the UI including new icons. WhatsApp tracker WABetaInfo reported that a new WhatsApp update has been spotted which will arrive to the beta version of the app for now and will be rolled out for all users in the next few days. The new update brings a new icon for the camera as well as chats and WhatsApp Status. These new icons will make a huge difference to the overall appearance of the app.

The platform also shared how the new camera icon may look like. It shows that a viewfinder has been added to the icons for chats and WhatsApp Status. The update has reportedly fixed a bug that caused the app to crash when a voice message was played. However, the dark mode is missing from this update as well. The feature has been teased multiple times in the past and is being eagerly waited for.

The platform has also reported that WhatsApp will soon get Multiple Device Support feature which is similar to the Registrations Notifications feature that the company recently rolled out on the beta version of its iOS based app. This new feature notifies users whenever someone tries to log into their accounts or register a new WhatsApp account with users' phone numbers. It aims to enhance the privacy of WhatsApp's overall system by not giving other users accidental access to a user's account and data.

WhatsApp vs Government

A WhatsApp spokesperson has recently said that the platform regrets that it did not meet the "Governments expectations for proactive engagement on these issues." The Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) had published a vulnerability note on May 17 advising countermeasures to users about a vulnerability in WhatsApp, according to Union Information and Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad. WhatsApp reported an incident to the CERT-In on May 20, the Minister said. He added that WhatsApp wrote to CERT-In again on September 5 mentioning an update to the security incident reported in May 2019, that while the full extent of this attack may never be known, WhatsApp continued to review the available information.

Responding to allegations that WhatsApp did not provide adequate details clearly, the messaging platform`s spokesperson said that it would "strive to do better".

"WhatsApp considers it a privilege to serve and carry the trust of more than 400 million people in India. We are deeply committed to protecting the privacy of our users in India by providing industry-leading security for all messages and calls and by staying ahead of advanced threats to user security," the WhatsApp spokesperson said in a statement.
