WhatsApp update: Social media messaging platform WhatsApp has surprised its subscribers through its new features added on Android or iOS platforms from time to time. The Facebook-owned firm on Tuesday launched a service to check the veracity of information to combat fake news in India ahead of general elections beginning this month. The new Checkpoint Tipline will allow users to check the authenticity of information received on WhatsApp. In a statement, WhatsApp said it was working with local startup Proto to classify messages sent to the service by users as true, false, misleading or disputed. With over 200 million users in India, WhatsApp is battling criticism of its platform being used for the spread of misinformation.

WhatsApp Dark mode

The most-anticipated Dark mode feature, which will help subscribers save battery life and also offer a slightly better experience to look at in dark rooms, is undergoing tests, and it will soon be added to its Android app. According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is likely to use a dark grey as the background colour, the icons and headings in green, while sub-texts in white colour. The feature was stated to be spotted in the 2.19.82 WhatsApp version for Android beta.

WhatsApp Consecutive voice messages

WhatsApp is also set to add a consecutive voice messages feature to its Android app, facilitating users to play consecutive voice messages automatically, rather than playing a voice message manually. Spotted in Android 2.19.86 WhatsApp Beta version, this feature is reportedly under development and is expected to make its debut soon.

Picture-in-Picture enhance mode

Recently, WhatsApp has been noticed enhancing the Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode for Android, as it added the PiP feature to its platform in 2018. WhatsApp is expected to soon release a new update, allowing it users to play videos even though the app is closed.
