WhatsApp unveils 'Privacy Checkup Feature' for enhanced security

WhatsApp has recently introduced the Privacy Checkup feature for both Android and iOS devices, aiming to enhance the security protocols of the widely used social media application.
 
In an official blog post unveiling the new Privacy Checkup, Meta explained, "This feature provides a step-by-step guide through essential privacy settings, assisting users in selecting the optimal level of protection, all conveniently located in one accessible space. Initiating the checkup in your privacy settings will lead you through various privacy layers, fortifying the security of your messages, calls, and personal information."
 
A dedicated page outlining the feature elaborates that Privacy Checkup enables users to access comprehensive guidance to bolster their account's security and tailor privacy settings seamlessly.

Here's how to utilise Privacy Checkup on your mobile device:

• Open WhatsApp and access the settings menu on your iOS or Android device.
• Locate the banner at the top of the screen, inviting you to initiate the privacy checkup.
• Click on the relevant option to customise privacy settings.

Choose who can contact you
Users can manage their contacts, thwarting unwanted calls and messages. Additionally, they have the flexibility to determine who can add them to groups, silence unknown callers, and oversee blocked contacts.
 
Control personal information
Users can specify the audience with whom they wish to share personal details like online status and activity. They retain control over who views their profile photo, last seen status, and online activity, as well as managing read receipts. 

Default message timer
Users can restrict access to their messages and media by configuring their default message timer and end-to-end encrypted backups.

 Fingerprint protection
WhatsApp users can enhance their account's security by implementing an additional layer through the fingerprint lock and two-step verification control.
