Till now, users only had the option of adding contacts from their mobile devices - by either typing in a phone number or scanning a QR code. But the Meta-owned platform will soon let you add and manage contacts from the comfort of your keyboard on WhatsApp Web and Windows. This feature will eventually be extended to other linked devices.

Save Contacts Exclusively To WhatsApp

Another feature that WhatsApp will soon introduce is the choice of saving contacts exclusively to WhatsApp.

"These WhatsApp contacts are ideal for when you are sharing your phone with others or if you want to separate personal and business contacts when managing more than one WhatsApp account on your phone," the company said.

This will be beneficial to users as they easily recover the contacts saved to WhatsApp in case they ever lose the smartphone or change devices.

Saving Contacts Exclusively To WhatsApp Can Be Useful If -

- You’re sharing your phone with others

- Manage a work and personal WhatsApp account on the same device and want two contact lists

- You lose your phone or change devices, since contacts you save to WhatsApp will be restored.

Extra Privacy For WhatsApp Users

These updates will also let users manage and save contacts by usernames. The good thing about saving contacts by usernames on WhatsApp is that it will add an extra degree of privacy.

As part of this feature, Meta has announced an encrypted storage system called Identity Proof Linked Storage (IPLS).

"IPLS allows you to save your contacts and automatically restore them directly through WhatsApp," Meta said.
