The messaging app faced security bugs a few days ago, but the issue is fixed now. Hackers were getting access to users' device through a GIF file. According to the post on GitHub, researchers have revealed that the bug was hidden in the gallery of the phone.

How they did it on WhatsApp: The researchers said that hackers used to create a virus GIF file first and they waited for the user to open his/her WhatsApp gallery. 

What happened to WhatsApp users: The report further revealed that the bug used to crash WhatsApp application after corrupting the memory, allowing hackers to get access to the device. 

These WhatsApp users affected: The bug was working on smartphones with Android 8.1 and 9.0 operating systems. While one using an operating system older than the Android 8.0 version is safe.

How WhatsApp reacted: However, WhatsApp has cleared that the bug found in August has been fixed. For the past few months.
