WhatsApp Chat Lock feature for Android, iOS: WhatsApp has been adding a lot of new features to make sure that the instant messaging platform remains relevant to the needs of the users. Among all these features, the one that has been the key focus of the Meta-owned platform is security. To enhance it further, the company has now added one more security and privacy feature. It has now added the Chat Lock feature that will enable users to make their selection conversations even more private.

"New locked chats in WhatsApp make your conversations more private. They're hidden in a password protected folder and notifications won't show sender or message content," Mark Zuckerberg said in a Facebook post.

According to WhatsApp, the feature will put the selected chat behind a folder within the app and can be accessed with your device password or biometric, like a fingerprint.

"It also automatically hides the contents of that chat in notifications, too," the company said.

WhatsApp Chat Lock: Step-by-step guide to setup the feature

Step 1: Open WhatsApp

Step 2: Tap on the Chats 

Step 3: Select the chat you want to lock

Step 4: Tap on the name of the person or group at the top

Step 5: Under the Disappearing Messages you will find Chat Lock option

Step 6: Toggle on "Lock this chat with fingerprint"

Step 7: Confirm Chat Lock with your fingerprint

Step 8: A pop up message saying "This chat now locked" will appear

In order to find your locked chats, go to the Chat option and on pulling down slowly you will find the Locked Chats at the top. In order to read the chat, you will have to authenticate it with your phone's password or biometric. 

WhatsApp has announced that it has started rolling out the feature globally for both Android and iOS users. It may take some before users get access to the feature in India.
