What is Apple GPT: Tech giant's new effort to counter ChatGPT and Google Bard

Ever since OpenAI launched its breakthrough innovation with ChatGPT, an Artificial Intelligence-powered chatbot empowered to answer almost every question, other tech giants have clearly felt the heat of it, prompting many to come up with their own version of generative AI tools.

After Google launched Bard and Microsoft came up with Bing chatbot, another tech giant Apple Inc is reportedly testing its own version of the generative AI tool. The AI tool titled 'Apple GPT' aims to compete against the existing models, according to reports.  

According to a Bloomberg report, while the iPhone maker may have been creating its own AI-powered chatbot, it still doesn't have any solid plans to release the product in the market.

According to the report, the chatbot that Apple has been developing will use the company's own 'large language model' (LLM) framework called 'Ajax' and it will run on Google Cloud. It will be built with Google JAX, a framework created to accelerate machine learning research.

Multiple teams are presently working on the project, the report added. 

This comes at a time when Apple had earlier reportedly restricted the use of ChatGPT and other external AI tools for its employees until it develops its own similar technologies.  

However, it is developing the Ajax-powered chatbot internally to "unify machine learning development."

Tim Cook in his recent interview with Good Morning America said that the company has been "looking closely" at AI tech, further expressing his concerns about AI models as he said that a number of issues need to be sorted.
