The Apple iOS 17 beta was released for developers last month, but it was accessible to non-developers also for free. Now, the iOS17 public beta version is available.

Apple’s beta versions are relatively stable and the same is expected with iOS 17 public beta. However, there could be bugs  and performance issues at this stage and the users should be cautious before downloading it.

Key features of iOS 17

The new iOS will offer a wide range of latest features which includes build-in journaling app, safety features and even nightstand mode. This time, voice transcription and live voicemail are even included. On the other hand, the fun updates will be in stickers and AirDrop has been improved while there will be a NameDrop function. The latest version will also allow users to call “Siri” without the “Hey”.

Devices support to iOS 17

Both the versions of iOS 17 beta will work on the devices of iPhone SE which are of second generation or later. It will also work on iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR and on all other models of iPhone above this.

It is not going to be available for the iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.

How to install?

While going to install the beta version, make sure of backing up the iOS device before the process to keep up the data. It will also help you to get back to iOS 16 in case you will to do so.

However, for installing the beta releases of iOS 17, Apple has made it simple. Here’s how to do it:

  • Make sure the device is running currently with iOS 16.4 or later. If not, then update the software by going to Settings > General > Software Update and download the latest version.
  • Once done, head to Apple’s beta software portal on the device’s “Safari browser” and then sign up with the primary Apple ID. After signing in, select “Get Started”.
  • Once you have agreed, you will be done with the enrollment and Apple ID will become the beta pass to enter.
  • Go to the Settings > General > Software Update. Now you will see a new option of “Beta Updates”. Select and check to make sure the correct Apple ID is at the bottom of the screen. If not found, tap on ID and select “Use a different Apple ID”.
  • Select “iOS 17 Public Beta” in Beta Updates.
  • Once done, go to the Setting > General > Software Updates. You would see your iOS 17 Beta update there; select “Download and Install” and follow the instructions
