Just like any other social media platform, Twitter too keeps adding new features to improve user-experience, with fleets being the latest. However, one feature that people have been demanding for a long time but is yet to make its way to the platform is the ability to edit the already posted tweets. Unlike Facebook where you can edit posts, on Twitter you need to delete the tweet and re-tweet with the changed version.

But, on Friday, the platform announced that it will add the edit option to Twitter. However, it has a simple condition. Twitter said that the edit button can only be added after the widespread adoption of face masks in an effort to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

“You can have an edit button when everyone wears a mask,” the company said in a cheeky tweet.

In truth, the feature is unlikely to make its way to Twitter anytime soon. The platform co-founder Jack Dorsey said earlier this year that the company would “probably never" introduce the feature as it may cause users to inadvertently spread misinformation.

“We started as an SMS, text message service. And as you all know, when you send a text, you can`t really take it back. We wanted to preserve that vibe, that feeling, in the early days," Dorsey said recently.

Last month, Twitter had said that it has started working on a new feature that will prompt users to read an article before retweeting it. Currently, this feature is on a trial basis only for Android users in English. If a user decides to share an article on the platform, Twitter would prompt the user to open the article first and only then retweet.
