Telegram: Important message from company; moving chat history from other apps to more exciting features; here is all you need to know

Facebook-owned WhatsApp messaging app is under fire currently due to its controversial privacy policy. Many users across the globe are switching to its alternative messaging apps such as Signal and Telegram. Encrypted messaging app Telegram which added over 100 new million users in January and getting popular among Indians has rolled out several new features to attract more users.

According to the survey by CyberMedia Research (CMR), over the past one year, 37 per cent of users in India have actually used Telegram, compared to a mere 10 per cent for Signal, a rather nascent messaging app that is enjoying a spike in downloads in recent days, the news agency IANS recently reported.

Telegram has made it official to bring your chat history to its platform from apps like WhatsApp, Line and KakaoTalk. This works both for individual chats and groups and you can transfer photos as well as video calls.

Telegram, which has now crossed 600 million users, said in a statement that Messages will be imported into the current day but will also include their original timestamps.
"Move your message history from other apps such as WhatsApp, Line and KakaoTalk to Telegram. Use the Export Chat function in the other app, then Share the exported file to Telegram (see blog post for detailed instructions)," the Telegram said.

In its recent update, Telegram said: "Delete not only messages, but also groups you created, secret chats, and call history for all sides, without a trace. Adjust volume for individual participants of a voice chat. See active voice chats from your groups at the top of the Call History section."

Improved Music Player on Telegram: Tap the artist name in the music player to see tracks by that artist from all your chats. Pause and resume songs with a fade effect. Press and hold the ‘Next’ and ‘Previous’ buttons to fast-forward or rewind the track.

More features in the new update: Telegram in a message to its all users said: "Greet new users in one tap with a suggested sticker. Enjoy improved TalkBack support. Report fake groups or channels impersonating famous people or organizations by opening their Profile > ⋮ > Report."

Telegram has seen a significant uptake in new users as WhatsApp`s new Terms of Service and Privacy Policy trigged a fresh data sharing debate.
