Multiple device support is a long awaited feature on WhatsApp. And, it will soon become reality with users able to run the same WhatsApp account on four different smartphones at the same time. As of now, WhatsApp only allows you to operate an account on one smartphone. If users log in to second device, they are automatically logged out of the first one.

However, the instant messaging platform is now working on a feature that can change this. According to WhatsApp tracker WABetaInfo, the initial support added for the app will allow WhatsApp to run on four devices simultaneously. This, of course, is likely to be separate from WhatsApp’s desktop and web apps, which can already mirror your account on to laptops.

The feature is still under works and is being tested by WhatsApp so is not available for public use. But, the latest leak suggests that we are closer to getting multiple device support than ever.

The new feature would allow for a unified chat experience through the app, which would help users run the same account on multiple phones, without needing to register from different numbers. WhatsApp is tipped to use the same Wi-Fi network as an identifier for multiple phones to use the same account.

WhatsApp’s decision to allow support for four devices should make life a lot easier, especially for those who use both smartphone as well as a tablet. This leaves room for PCs to be counted as a separate entity, since they can already mirror an existing account.

Apart from this, WhatsApp is also working on other updates, which include improving the Dark Mode and adding support for features such as searching for messages by date. WhatsApp is believed to also be targeting workplace messaging tools, which offer specific features that make them more suited for work communication.
