Now, Snapchat has added 'Memories' feature.

How does it work?

The concept of Snapchat Memories is simple. Save images and videos and share it later. Meaning, the users can add pictures and videos to Memories and share or use it as your 'Snapchat Story' later. The users can also browse them whenever they feel like.

As per the official blogpost of Snapchat, "Memories is a new way to save Snaps and Stories on Snapchat. It’s a personal collection of your favorite moments that lives below the Camera screen. Just swipe up from the Camera to open Memories!"

Also, to make it look different from Snapchat Stories, Memories will appear with a frame around it so that users' friends can know that its from the past.

Further, if you want to avoid that awkward moment when your friend see a Snap Memories which is meant just for you, Snapchat has added 'My Eyes Only' feature.

"We realized that Snapchatters want to feel comfortable showing their Memories to friends while they’re hanging out together, so we made it easy to move Snaps and Stories to My Eyes Only — and avoid awkward moments when a friend stumbles upon a Snap meant just for you".

Safety feature

Though Memories is backed by Snapchat, but no backup of photos or videos from Camera Roll will be taken, unless users make it as a new Story or add it to My Eyes Only.
In such scenario, only the used images/videos will be back up.

When can Snappers use this feature?

"We’ll be rolling out Memories selectively over the next month or so — it’s a big change for our service so we want to make sure everything is running smoothly! You’ll receive a Chat from Team Snapchat when Memories is ready for you to use".

Facebook vs Snapchat

Snapchat's Memories will be in direct competition with Facebook.

For Facebook users, Memories feature is not new. In Facebook, users get a notification about the memories/ moments shared by them or with them in one year or more.

Similarly, in Facebook, users have options to select whether they want to share with public/ friends or keep it personal. This feature is again similar to Snapchat's My Eyes Only feature which restrict others to see the image/videos.
